In the developed world, food is often transported hundreds of miles to get to us. What about local growing and seasonal food? What will we do about the millions of people without enough to eat?
They say a UK Sunday lunch has travelled 27,000 miles! There are benefits to eating seasonal food and local produce. Lord Stern says we need to eat less meat. He’s right of course because cattle emit so much carbon through their gases (!) and the creation of the grain to fatten them up. And our future world needs to provide food for the masses.
What about water? No, not the floods. The big issue is drinking water and the lack of it, not just in Africa but Australia, Europe, the US and around the world. Without water to drink and grow crops, people will migrate in very big numbers. And back home, we need to consider the benefits of tap water vs bottled. Have you seen how restaurants offer you tap water? It’s just the start!
